Soup Sisters Kelowna

The soup’s on in Kelowna! Soup Sisters Kelowna successfully launched on, Monday, April 11, 2011 in partnership with Okanagan Street Food and in support of Kelowna Women's Shelter

Our Kelowna Soup Sisters Coordinators delivered a fantastic 200 servings to the shelter early the next morning, and we filled the freezer to the brim with an amazing array of delicious soups.

The Kelowna Women's Shelter offers free confidential counselling, support services, and short term housing to women and children who have experienced relationship abuse. The Shelter provides a safe and comfortable place to stay for up to 20-22 women and children at any given time. Soup Sisters welcomes the opportunity to provide them with a monthly supply of wholesome home-made soup made by people who care from their own community.

Soup Sisters is thrilled to partner with Chef Neil Schroeter who has enjoyed phenomenal success in the Okanagan through his gourmet Okanagan Street Food business. One of the Valley's premiere Chefs and caterers, Chef Schroeter has opened his new restaurant in Kelowna's North end where all of our monthly Soup Sisters events will be held under his expert guidance. The restaurant will also act as a storefront for his ever growing line of products, a catering headquarters, and Soup Sisters headquarters too!

It is not that often that we hear from the women that we support for reasons of anonymity. It is an honour and a privilege to receive confirmation of the work we do. With her kind permission we have published a note from Coleen.

My name is Coleen - just moved into the Kelowna Women's Shelter 2 days ago. I work full time and it's been a real challenge trying to make it to work and deal with the chaos in my life and the huge depression that lingers relentlessly night and day and keeps me from sleeping... I just wanted to say how nice it was to be able to take a bowl of comforting minestrone soup to work - one less thing to worry about. Tend not to eat much these days, but it was all made and ready to microwave. So please accept my humble thanks for your love, generosity and kindness when we truly need and appreciate it most.

A heart warming video has been created about Kelowna Soup Sisters by friends and supporters Alison and David at Spatula Media.
