Kitchener Soup Sisters

The soup's on in Waterloo! Soup Sisters successfully launched September 28, 2011 in Kitchener Waterloo and continues to make nutritious soup for those in need. In September 2018, we are 'souper' excited to be joining forces with our new culinary partner, Relish Cooking Studio .

ROOF is committed to providing for the safety, support, and overall well-being of homeless youth and youth-at-risk, age 12-25, in the Waterloo Region. Their objective is to maintain the health and safety of street youth, by providing resources and services that will allow them to make positive choices to end the cycle of homelessness. Soup Sisters hopes that our gift of wholesome soup will let them know that we believe in the potential of all young people and that we support them in their transition.

Marillac Place provides a safe home for women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five who are pregnant, or who have a child in their care, or who are attempting to regain care of their child. Mothers who come to Marillac Place receive 24 hour guidance and support, continue their education and are enabled with the life-skills they need to care for themselves and their child. When young people receive the message that someone cares they are better able to make positive changes to their lives. Our soup is a message in a bowl that says we care loud and strong, while at the same time ensuring a nourishing and nurturing meal for young mothers and their children.

Women's Crisis Services empowers and supports women and children to move beyond violence and abuse through the provision of safe shelter, education and outreach services. They operate a residential program at two shelters; Anselma House in Kitchener and Haven House in Cambridge plus regional outreach services, for abused women and children.

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charge a $55 participation fee per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for the soups, the venue, equipment, supervision, and a Chef or professional facilitator. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.
