Soup Sisters London
The soup's on in London! Soup Sisters successfully launched March 26, 2012 in London Ontario in partnership with Cooking Matters and in support of Women's Community House.Over 150 servings of five different delicious and nurturing soups were delivered fresh the very next day to the women and children at Women's Community House.
Women's Community House has been providing shelter for abused women and their children since 1978. They are Canada’s largest high-security shelter for abused women and their children and receive families from London and the surrounding area as well as from across the country.
Soup Sisters is proud to be supporting two shelter locations where there are a total of 67 beds for women and children, and will provide a monthly donation of hundreds of litres of nurturing and nourishing home-made soups. While in the shelter, women can receive counselling and are offered programs such as personal safety planning and moving toward a life free of violence. Together with the Women’s Community House team Soup Sisters is committed to ending woman abuse and its impact on families and communities. A representative from Women’s Community House will address every Soup Sisters group, providing an overview of the many healing and prevention programs available.
All of our soup-making events will be held under the guidance of Suki Kaur-Cosier of Cooking Matters. Suki’s energy, love for food and meeting people will fill the room with the most perfect Soup Sisters ingredients. “What better way to spend your time than doing what you love and value: buying local, meeting people from varied backgrounds and interests and bridging the gap by cooking, eating and learning together,” Suki says. London Soup Sisters is thrilled to be partnering with Suki and Cooking Matters.
