The Sudbury Star Soup Sisters offer hug in a bowl

Sudbury Soup Sisters

The soup's on in Sudbury! Soup Sisters Sudbury launched March 30, 2014 with a wonderful group of 25 inaugural Soup Sisters and our Broth Brother Gerry who chopped and diced 160 servings of nourishing soup for Genevra House.

YWCA Genevra House is open to all women who are escaping abuse by their intimate partners (including same sex partners). Women and their children are provided with a secure and welcoming environment any time of day or night. YWCA Genevra House provides:

  • 32-bed residence open 24/7
  • Free emergency transportation to shelter
  • High level security system
  • Telephone support line
  • Crisis intervention, support, counseling and referrals
  • Safety planning for women, children and youth at every turning point

Sudbury Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers come together in the state of the art commercial kitchen space at College Boreal , Institute of Culinary Arts and Hospitality, under the tutelage of Manager Simon Le Henaff and his culinary student volunteers. Buoyed by more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant business, Mr. Le Henaff has distinguished himself as Head Chef at some of the major resorts in the Muskokas and has also been guest chef on the TV show "Cooking's cool" in addition to being secretary and editor for the Muskoka and Districts Chefs Association.

Simon brings his warmth and enthusiasm to Soup Sisters events and ensures that every bowl is delivered with a hug. Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers is thrilled to partner with College Boreal for our soup-making events in their fantastic commercial kitchen.

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charge a participation fee per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for the soups, the venue, equipment, supervision, and a Chef or professional facilitator. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.
