Toronto Soup Sisters

Toronto was the second city in Canada to have a Soup Sisters chapter and launched on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Fifty women rolled up their sleeves to make delicious, nutritious soups for Interval House at state-of-the-art dish cooking studio. Nearly 300 servings of soup were lovingly prepared under the capable and enthusiastic leadership of Celebrity Chef Christine Cushing.

Soup Sisters Toronto is pleased to welcome their newest shelter recipient Sistering. Sistering is a 24/7 Drop In supporting some of Toronto's most marginalized women - poor, homeless or precariously housed, often with complex health issues. Sistering offers a safe and welcoming refuge, case support, trauma informed counselling, health care and more, including three hot meals a day and soup and sandwiches overnight. Last year, Sistering served more than 155,000 meals at the 24/7 Drop In and the Outreach Drop In in Parkdale.

Dish Cooking Studio is a one-stop culinary destination: a cooking school, cafe with prepared foods, gourmet retail store, catering company and private/corporate event space all centered around food, fun, and engaging and interactive culinary experiences.

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charge a $65 participation fee per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for the soups, the venue, equipment, supervision, and a Chef or professional facilitator. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.
