By the Numbers: Soup Sisters helps dish out comfort to those in need The Province

Vancouver Soup Sisters NWCA

On April 15, 2015 launched a partnership with Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver in support of Sereenas Housing for Women and Maggies' Place .

Join us at one of our monthly soup-making events, and help prepare hundreds of servings of soup to benefit Sereenas House, a resident support program in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. The goal of the Program is to provide a supportive environment in which women are assisted in their efforts to live independently of violence, abuse, and substance use, to access community services and to become involved in their community.

North West Culinary Academy of Vancouver was built from scratch by two experienced chefs-instructors in 2004 with a vision to create the kind of school which did not yet exist and is now highly regarded as a visionary culinary instruction school in Vancouver. Its teaching philosophy is simple: We teach our students the way we would want to be taught. Soup Sisters is thrilled to partner with Northwest Culinary Academy to make soups in its professional kitchen under the guidance of their student chefs.

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charge a $55 participation fee per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for the soups, the venue, equipment, supervision, and a Chef or professional facilitator. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.
