Soup Sisters Kitchener Waterloo
The soup's on in Waterloo! Soup Sisters successfully launched September 28, 2011 in Kitchener Waterloo in partnership with The Culinary Studio and in support of ROOF and Marillac Place. Nearly 300 servings of delicious and nurturing soup was delivered fresh the very next day to our recipients.
ROOF is committed to providing for the safety, support, and overall well-being of homeless youth and youth-at-risk, age 12-25, in the Waterloo Region. Their objective is to maintain the health and safety of street youth, by providing resources and services that will allow them to make positive choices to end the cycle of homelessness. Soup Sisters hopes that our gift of wholesome soup will let them know that we believe in the potential of all young people and that we support them in their transition.
Marillac Place provides a safe home for women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five who are pregnant, or who have a child in their care, or who are attempting to regain care of their child. Mothers who come to Marillac Place receive 24 hour guidance and support, continue their education and are enabled with the life-skills they need to care for themselves and their child. When young people receive the message that someone cares they are better able to make positive changes to their lives. Our soup is a message in a bowl that says we care loud and strong, while at the same time ensuring a nourishing and nurturing meal for young mothers and their children.
Soup Sisters is excited to partner with Waterloo Region’s newest culinary destination and premier cooking school. Grown from a passion of cooking, teaching and enjoying food, The The Culinary Studio is a partnership between Red Seal trained Chefs Jody O’Malley and Kirstie Herbstreit. Our soups will be made in a state-of-the-art professional kitchen environment that will unleash your passion for learning, cooking and kitchen camaraderie.
