SOUPER KIDS
NOURISHING FUTURES
Food insecurity is forcing families into impossible choices, and kids feel it first.
In 2025, nearly 10 million Canadians, including 2.4 million children, faced food insecurity.
In Alberta, 1 in 3 students are going to school hungry, up from 1 in 4 the year before.
Across Canada, many children in low-income communities arrive at school and after-school programs without consistent access to nutritious food, affecting their health, focus, and learning.
At Soup Sisters, we believe that everything starts with proper nutrition, and Souper Kids is our nutrition-focused response to rising child and youth hunger in Alberta. We meet children where they are, because hunger shows up during the school day and after the bell rings. When schools close in the evenings, on weekends, and during holidays, the gap often widens.
Souper Kids operates through two complementary programs. Together, these address distinct yet interconnected gaps in access to nutritious food.
‘We know there are many students coming to school
hungry. A Soup Sisters soup day ensures they are
receiving healthy, delicious meals they actually devour!”

School Soup Days
We deliver a hot, nourishing meal to the entire student body at schools serving low-income communities. This whole-school approach matters. When every child shares the same meal, it removes stigma and protects dignity, while supporting energy, concentration, and participation in class.
After-school nourishment and take-home soup
Souper Kids also supports after-school programs, offering consistent nourishment during the hours when kids are often most vulnerable to hunger, including after school and during school closures.
This model includes take-home soup, so kids can share food with siblings and caregivers, extending the impact from the classroom into the home. We listened when young people told us they were worried about their families, too. Hungry kids often come from hungry homes, and this approach helps meet that reality with care and practicality.
*Families receive nutritious food during financial strain

*Empower youth to care for their families
*Support food security at the household level
*Increase reach without increasing cost
